If you are a Houstonian or have lived in Houston long enough, you know the Acres Homes community.  This is not only the place where Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner was born and raised, but this neighborhood located in the northwest section of Houston has a rich history.  Acres Homes was once considered the South’s largest unincorporated Black community.  Like in many communities around the country, the conditions of the Acres Homes community has declined over the years due to circumstances.  However, there are those committed to lending a hand, stepping up, and working together to help make Acres Homes a better place for its citizens.

J&K Concrete & Construction Services (J&K) and the Greater Commission Missionary Baptist Church (GCMBC) are working together to rebuild the church after the recent flood that devastated Houston and its surrounding areas, including Acres Homes.  Jimmy Anthony and Kevin Davis, co-owners of J&K and Dr. Ronnie R. Matthews, Sr., Founder and Pastor of GCMBC are committed to rebuild the church, not only for the benefit of the congregation, but for the benefit of the Acres Homes community and its residents.  Anthony, Davis, and Dr. Matthews know and understand the importance of coming together, having a shared vision of betterment for Acres Homes.  Now seeing it come into fruition, they are proof that when the community comes together, there can be new and welcome change.

J&K Concrete & Construction Services

In 2014, J&K was founded to lend their expertise in the commercial and industrial construction business in the greater Houston area. From the beginning, they have focused on helping their clients build strong functional foundations.  This mindset combined with their strong core values has given them success in the industry.  This for-profit company also has the community in mind.  Working with Dr. Matthews and GCMBC is a way for them to help give back to a community that has given so much to them.

Davis comes from humble beginnings, and he has seen first-hand what can happen when the community comes together.  Davis says, “It takes businesses, churches, community leaders, and really everyone to help create a change for the whole area.  It’s a blessing for J&K to work with Dr. Matthews on rebuilding GCMBC, seeing that his vision comes from a pure spirit.  We do site work and lay foundation.  Foundation for the community is just like concrete.  If you have nothing to stand on, you will fall.  J&K is proud that we can be a part of this vision to make sure the foundation is solid.”

Though J&K is a premiere company in Houston, Anthony and Davis feel that being apart of this project to help rebuild GCMBC allows them to be servants, giving back in a relevant and necessary way to help Acres Homes and GCMBC.  “Working with clients like GCMBC, we are able to be more than a for-profit business.  The Acres Homes area needs this church.  GCMBC is more than a place of worship, but it is a place that goes beyond the church, helping give help to those outside of the church and in the Acres Homes community,” says Anthony.

Partnering with J&K provides your project with the experience needed for success. The company combines an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of construction with a unique sensitivity to the programming and function of your facility, while minimizing the effects of construction so your operations stay on track and your building plans stay on schedule.

J&K Concrete & Construction Services Has Experience in the Following Areas:

  • Patio Expansion
  • Sidewalks
  • Dirt Work
  • Pressure Washing
  • New Driveways & Construction Work

With GCMBC set to enter into their new building in December with the help of J&K, Dr. Matthews will be able to continue to take the message of God’s hope and love outside of the four walls, having programs and initiatives that will help the residents of Acres Homes live a life of economic empowerment, helping make significant economic change for Acres Homes.
