BP Appoints Deputy Chief Executive Officer as leadership shifts continue across the global energy sector, highlighting a broader industry focus on strategic growth, policy alignment, and innovation. In line with this trend, NRG Energy has named Caroline Golin, Ph.D., as its new Chief Growth and Policy Officer, bringing extensive experience in energy strategy, market development, and clean energy innovation to support the company’s long-term vision amid rising energy demand.

bp today announced the appointment of Carol Howle as deputy chief executive officer, effective immediately.

Carol will continue to lead supply, trading and shipping (ST&S) and in her new role will also oversee the company’s ongoing portfolio review and strategy development. To support these changes, bp’s strategy and sustainability team will now report to Carol. The deputy ceo role is not a bp PLC board position.

Meg O’Neill, chief executive officer of bp, said: “As I step into my new role I am committed to providing clear direction and consistency so our company can move forward with confidence. I’m looking forward to working closely with her to deliver a simpler, stronger, more valuable bp to maximize value for our shareholders.” 

Carol Howle, deputy chief executive officer of bp, said: “bp is a great company. Progress has been made in recent months but there is always more to do. Meg and I share a commitment to safe and reliable operations, disciplined capital allocation and high-quality delivery – and I look forward to supporting her as she gets started.” 

Carol has spent 25 years with bp. She was appointed EVP ST&S in 2020 and interim CEO in December 2025.
