United Airlines Makes Strides in $2.55 Billion Terminal B Transformation at IAH

HOUSTON — United Airlines is investing $2.55 billion to transform the original George Bush Intercontinental Airport Terminal B, which opened in June 1969, into a modern and efficient facility designed to improve the passenger experience. The project includes constructing new concourses, expanded capacity and upgraded amenities. However, the significant construction necessitates temporary changes to passenger flow.

“We understand that navigating an airport under construction can be challenging,” said Kelly Woodward, Chief Operating Officer for Houston Airports. “We want to thank all our airport guests for their patience and understanding as United Airlines progresses on this transformative project. These new wayfinding signs are a significant step in ensuring a smooth travel experience for everyone flying through Terminal B at IAH, especially as we welcome 14.7 million passengers to Bush Airport this summer.”

The new signage is strategically placed along the new walkway from the A/B garage into Terminal B. Passengers will enter the airport on the Terminal B Baggage Level before taking the stairs, escalator, or elevators up to the Ticketing Lobby on Level 2.

Since the usual path is blocked by construction, a temporary pedestrian walkway has been built between the A/B Garage and Terminal B. The signage clearly outlines this new route and is available in English and Spanish. United Airlines’ extensive wayfinding initiative addresses the temporary disruption caused by construction and aims to minimize passenger confusion.

The United Airlines Terminal B Transformation project is expected to be completed in 2026. Upon completion, passengers can expect a world-class terminal that reflects Houston’s status as a major global aviation hub.
