Turner Construction Company took steps to reinforce its leadership in safety by promoting nine operational leaders to serve as operations safety executives.
According to a news release from the company, these leaders will play a pivotal role in further advancing Turner’s commitment to worker health and well-being.
The operations safety executives will report directly to Steve Spaulding, Chief EH&S Officer, and will oversee the development and implementation of operational and safety-focused strategies to drive company—and industry-wide improvements in operational safety performance. This new operational safety leadership team will serve as a resource across the entire company, fostering consistent implementation of EH&S and operational processes, company officials say.
The newly named operations safety executives are:
- Robert Baird
- Dean Bitter
- Ron Covo
- Karl Kinsella
- Maureen Kirkpatrick
- Doug LaPlante
- Andrew Leone
- Laura Prendergast
- Ian Smith
These leaders bring a wealth of deep operational construction experience to their new roles. Turner Construction officials say they have led projects of all sizes, and their work includes assignments that exceed billions of dollars of revenue and 5,000 workers on site.
“Our focus has always been on people first,” said Steve Spaulding, the Chief EH&S Officer. “These promotions reflect our confidence in Robert, Dean, Ron, Karl, Maureen, Doug, Andrew, Laura, and Ian to actively care for others and to lead with care and innovation. Their extensive operational experience and dedication to safety will further strengthen our culture and help us achieve our goal of creating the safest workplaces in the industry.”
As Turner Construction continues to grow and evolve, the launch of this team represents a significant step forward in enhancing senior leadership engagement and ensuring people-focused solutions.
“I congratulate these accomplished individuals and look forward to their continued success in driving safety on our projects and in our company. Their efforts will transform the industry,” said Abrar Sheriff, president of Turner Construction Company. “When Turner people commit to improvement and change, we accomplish great things. Our safety culture is people-focused and operationally led. Our commitment to safety is absolute. The safety of the worker is so much more important than the productivity of work.”
